The students of the Department can participate in the European student exchange programme ERASMUS+.
ERASMUS+ is the European Commission‘s new programme for education, training, youth and sport, which came into force on 1 January 2014.
It integrates previous EU programmes in education, training and youth, including the integrated Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) (Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci, Comenius, Grundtvig), the Youth in Action programme and five international cooperation programmes (Erasmus Mundus, Tempus, Alfa, Edulink and the cooperation programmes with industrialised countries).
Specifically, the ERASMUS+ student exchange programme gives the opportunity to students who have successfully completed their first year of studies and meet specific requirements, to spend part of the
their study programme in a relevant Department of a European Academic Institution from a minimum of 6 (1 semester) up to 12 months (2 semesters) duration.
Since 2004, the University of Western Macedonia (UOWM) has been actively participating in the ERASMUS+ student exchange programme and for this purpose the existing departments of the UOWM have concluded a number of bilateral agreements with recognised academic institutions from abroad, in which the students of the Chemical Engineering Department can, from the academic year 2016-2017, carry out part of their studies in these International Universities.
Following an open call for applications, students submit an application and after evaluation by the cordinator of the programme (designated by the Department), they are selected to participate in the programme. Moreover, as the ERASMUS+ programme is constantly evolving and expanding its activities, it now offers students the opportunity to work as interns in organisations and companies abroad for up to 12 months. In fact, this possibility is also given to the graduates of the Department until the end of the academic year in which they were awarded the Diploma of Chenical Engineering.
The following countries are fully eligible to participate in all ERASMUS+ actions: the Member States of the European Union (EU): Belgium, Bulgaria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Croatia, France, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Finland, Sweden, the United Kingdom.
Countries that are not members of the European Union (EU): the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland and Turkey.
For the Department of Chemical Engineering, the cordinator of the programme is Professor Maria Goula.
