2. LEARNING OUTCOMES

Learning Outcomes

With this course, student is introduced to the basic principles of chemistry with an emphasis on inorganic chemistry and to applications related to the science of Chemical Engineering.
On successful completion of this course students will be able to:
• distinguish the basic principles of chemistry and physical chemistry,
• describe the atom structure and its behavior depending on the position in the Periodic Table,
• implement the electron configuration and filling of the orbitals
• classify the different types of chemical bonds
• explain their geometric configuration in space
• explain the concept of chemical kinetics and reaction rate and the factors that affect them
• evaluate the chemical equilibrium importance and its role in the choice of industrial reactions conditions
• list the compounds that are considered as acids, bases or salts
• distinguish between strong and weak acids and bases
• recognize the buffer solutions importance in everyday life
• understand the redox mechanism and balance the redox reactions
