2. LEARNING OUTCOMES

Learning Outcomes

The course provides knowledge and tools to students so they understand what strategy is and what strategic planning is. Also, provides to them a methodology to be able to understand and analyze the environment (micro, macro and internal) of the business. Also, gives the opportunity to student to know the different strategies and when they can use it. Through lectures, exercises and case studies students will be able to

1. Understand what strategy is and isnt
2. Understand what strategic planning and planning is
3. Identify and evaluate micro and macro environment elements of businesses 4. They apply the PESTEL methodology to evaluate the macro environment and the factors that determine it
5. Identify and evaluate the attractiveness of the business sector by applying Porters model of five forces
6. Know and identify business resources and the fundamental capabilities that arise from them
7. Apply the VRIO Analysis technique
8. Understand the importance and significance of the value chain
9. Identify, prioritize and evaluate business objectives
10. To identify critical success factors of organizations
11. Choose, adopt and formulate strategies according to their competitive conditions, environment, resources and capabilities
12. Monitor, control and evaluate their strategic choices

Strategy and Strategic Planning. Mintzbergs five Ps. Factors affecting Strategy and Strategic Planning. Importance of Strategy and Strategic Planning. Strategic levels and strategy formulation. Vision, mission and strategic goals. Strategic Analysis of the External Environment: Macro Environment, Competitive (Micro) Environment. PESTEL methodology. Porters Model of five forces, comparative industry analysis : Rantar Plot. Determination of Competitive Position. Strategic Analysis of the Internal Environment: Resources, Capabilities and Fundamental Competencies. Value Chain. VRIO Analysis. Strategy types. Environment and Strategic Planning. Strategy Implementation and Evaluation
