2. LEARNING OUTCOMES

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the enrolled students will be gaining the following knowledge, skills and competences;

• Understand the chemistry of the carbon since it is considered the basis of organic chemistry
• Identify, classify and name different organic compounds
• Became more familiar with the chemical and physical properties, chemical reactions and preparation methods of members different homologous series
• Use basic knowledge of principles of organic chemistry to apply the properties of organic compounds to various classes of materials, such as petroleum products, insecticides, hospital wastes etc.

More specifically, in the context of this course, the enrolled students will be acquiring knowledge and useful skills to evaluate the use of organic compounds in research fields in order to produce environmental friendly and energetic efficient materials adhering to the principles of sustainable development.
Furthermore, the laboratory training imparts to students the practical skills associated with conducting experiments and handling samples, materials and reagents as well as scientific laboratory equipment.

• Average of written reports: 20%
• Final examination: 80%

Students are notified for the assessment methods at the beginning of the semester by the teacher in oral and writing form and they are able to contact with the teacher in order to discuss their performance.
